How long do jobs stay open on company careers pages?

We tracked 107,032 job listings on 84 employers' own careers sites, each read daily, from 1 September to 25 October 2026. Here is how long they stayed up.

Key findings

  • Half of new listings come down within 25 days of first appearing.
  • About 1 in 4 is gone within a week, and 1 in 3 within two weeks. By day 30, 56% have come down; about 1 in 5 is still up after two months.
  • The pattern isn't driven by a few big employers: without the 10 largest sites the median is 26 days, and counting each employer once, the typical employer's median is also 26 days.
  • Support roles come down fastest (median 21 days). Operations, finance, product, HR and retail and warehouse roles stay up longest (31-32 days); engineering sits at 28.
  • Junior titles come down sooner (18 days) than senior ones (27).

What it means

If a role interests you, apply in the first couple of weeks; by the end of the first month most listings are gone.

Limitations

Covers 84 employers whose sites we read daily, mostly large employers, and one employer (Amazon) is 38% of listings; "first appeared" is when we first saw it, up to a day after posting; "came down" means removed from the careers page, which can mean filled, paused or moved; a role reposted under a new ID counts as a new listing; listings already open on our first read of a site are excluded; roles that vanish and return with the same ID within 14 days count as one listing; anything beyond 60 days can't be measured yet; departments come from our classifier (about 82% accurate on roles it hasn't seen) and seniority from title words; department differences partly reflect which employers hire for which roles. This is not a sample of the whole labour market.

Methodology

Data through 25 Oct 2026, computed 26 Oct 2026. Kaplan-Meier survival; still-open listings kept as censored; sites with capped or partial reads excluded. Median 25 days (the 95% confidence interval rounds to the same day). This page is one frozen snapshot. A later refresh will be a new dated version.
