Job alerts for one role at a company

By JobNotify Editorial · Last updated October 20, 2026 · 6 min read

The company is right. The email is wrong, because it is every job they have. Here is how to ask for one kind of role and leave the rest alone.

A note before we start. JobNotify filters alerts by the words you set. This guide is about that filter, not about picking a tool brand. About JobNotify.

The whole company is too much

“Alert me when Acme is hiring” sounds right until Acme posts a retail job in another country, three internships, and one role you would actually open. You wanted Acme. You also wanted a lane: finance, design, nursing, a staff engineer seat.

That second half is the search people type when they get specific: the company, the kind of work, then “jobs” or “job alerts.” The jobs version fills up with the employer’s own listings, which is what they wanted if they are applying today. The alerts version is the email for next time. Same company. Different promise.

If you have not narrowed the company yet, start with job alerts for a specific company. This page assumes the name is settled and the job title is the part you keep getting wrong.

People rarely type the hiring platform. They type “BP finance job alerts,” or “Carey Olsen legal jobs,” or whatever pair has been sitting in their head. The useful page answers the alert version: email me when this company posts this kind of role.

A page titled like a job board (“Acme finance jobs,” full stop) attracts people who want the list right now. They click the employer. They do not want a product. If you are setting this up for yourself, you can ignore that tangle. If you are wondering why a company page feels like the wrong result, that title mix-up is why.

Words that help, words that miss

Use the words that show up in the title you would apply to. “Accountant” if you would not take “bookkeeper.” “Nurse” if “nursing assistant” is a different job. Short and boring beats a clever phrase the company never prints.

Then add words that should kill the email. “Intern” if you are not a student. A city you will not move to, if the tool lets you exclude it. JobNotify matches include words as whole words, so “art” does not light up inside “partner.” That saves a few false cheers. It also means “eng” will not catch “engineer.” Type the word they use.

One company, one kind of role. If the second email is the wrong team, the filter is too wide. Tighten the title words before you add another company.

Free accounts on JobNotify get 3 companies and 1 filter with 1 job-title keyword. Paid plans let you stack more title words. A custom filter request, where you describe a rule the product does not already have, is Super only. Everyday title and exclude words are not that request. Prices and caps are on the pricing page.

City, remote, and the odd title

Location is where good alerts go to die. “Remote” on one company’s page means anywhere. On another it means remote inside one country. A title might say “London” in the body and “UK” in the field. If the mail you get is the right job in the wrong place, exclude the place, or require it, instead of throwing out the company.

And if the dream is three companies, not one team at one firm, do not cram them into a single fuzzy keyword. Give each company its own alert. Tracking more than one company is the setup for that list.

When you know the pair, company plus role, the company pages are the place to turn the email on. Open the company, then the kind of work, and ask for new roles only. Jobs already sitting on the page stay visible. They do not get mailed to you as if they just appeared.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get alerts for one kind of job at a company?

Watch that company’s careers page and filter on the title words you would actually apply to. Add exclusions for titles you do not want, such as internships. Avoid a single alert for every opening at a large employer.

Should the page say jobs or job alerts?

If you want the list of openings today, you want the company’s own jobs page. If you want an email next time they post, you want a job alert. Those are different searches, and they should not look identical.

Do filters email me about roles that are already open?

On JobNotify, roles already open when you start watching, or already open when you edit a filter, are not emailed. You can still see them. The alert is for matches that appear after that.

Watch one kind of role at a company you named

A role can appear on a company’s careers page before a job board copies it. Some never do.
